Paper Peril

Now that the last hurdle has been cleared (Visa received!), I guess it’s safe to post this particular entry…and I’m going to just say it here to make it official: I’M GOING TO TCAF!

The original plan was for Saph and I was to go on a trip to Toronto, Canada, that would coincide with TCAF…but somewhere along the way Saph asked me to try my luck and apply for a booth.

I honestly never thought that I’d make it through the selection process (since the number of applicants increase every year!) so you can only imagine my (belated) elation when I received my booth confirmation e-mail (note: I was in the lab when I read the e-mail so I had to suppress my urge to run around in circles while screaming until lunchtime).

So yeah, if you happen to be a Torontoian (does that term exist?) or will be at TCAF, do drop by my booth! Even if it’s just to say hello!

I’m still in the process of putting together my book, but I’ll definitely be posting up more stuff in the days leading up to TCAF! /goes back to editing pages

Posting up something ‘old’, just to keep up with things! I’m really terrible when it comes to keeping this place up-to-date with my latest art! Timeline-wise though, this was done after I was done with my Adventure Time fancomic, so it kind of fits…somewhat?

Also, to the new followers of this blog, thank you! I don’t really draw a lot of fanart but I sure hope you’ll stick around! =)

I was chatting with Saph about comics and deadlines just now and lamenting about how we keep getting Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to comics and Comic Fiesta when she said that I should update this Tumblr more after my doujin (or should I say comic anthology) rush, to which I say SCREW IT and post another page from my journal.

This page was done before the previous watercolour journal piece I posted here, but I got around to erasing my pencil lines (which is the part I dislike the most about the drawing process) and here you go!

Seriously, I am a sloth when it comes to scanning. Like wha-

In case any of you are wondering, I’ve not cut my hair since I drew this piece and now the fringe has grown so much longer it’s almost covering my eyebrows. Time for another haircut…I guess..?

Something I did in watercolour recently (a first in my new journal sketchbook). The Moleskine sketchbook does take watercolours rather well if you want to achieve a semi-dry/wet effect.

In case you’re wondering, yes, it’s a little weird when you see a piece of tissue that was just taken from another person’s body just moments ago being painted like this. All part of the job I guess. (This coming from the person who subsequently took that tissue and made it into a cell line which is currently still growing).

P/S: It was a breast tumour. /MENANGIS DI TETEK BATU

P/P/S: I still don’t know how to edit watercolour scans to get the best effects on the computer. Meh.

Going off on a long-overdue trip with my parents tomorrow, but the feeling of excitement has yet to kick in. Anyway, here’s a piece from my latest comic journal, done without much planning really.

I was about to go to bed (because I have to be at work early tomorrow) but I had the urge to post something so I did. Something rather old because this is one of my favourites that I have yet to post here. More to follow, hopefully!

Heya guys, sorry that I kinda reneged on the promise to post up pages leading up to the release of my book!

To make up for it, here are two pages from the book, one by me and another by the very awesome Zid (who graciously gave me permission to use this piece of art in my book)! 

I’ve sold about half the books I printed already, which I think is pretty good considering the usual reception to non-mainstream/superhero/anime/manga stuff at conventions around Malaysia.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have bought the book.

Truly, this has been a very gratifying and humbling experience. =)

Hey guys and girls, I managed to collect my books after work today, score!

So, here’s what you need to know: It’s 40 pages thick, totally Black & White, printed on 80 gsm paper with the exception of the cover, which is 150 gsm paper.

You can be the proud owner of one for the affordable price of RM6 (or 6SGD, depending on where you’re getting it from me from)!

Sorry to those of you who are interested but aren’t from Malaysia or Singapore  because I don’t intend to do any shipping for these at the moment!

I’ll be posting sample pages in the days leading up to MGCCon that I’ve not shown here before so keep your eyes peeled!

After braving through half of today with only a bowl of cereal for breakfast due to last minute drawing, editting, typesetting, and organizing, I’ve finally managed to send my book to print.

It’s basically a compilation of the journal comics I’ve done in 2011 and truth be told I’m pretty satisfied with how the cover turned out. My first time making a cover too, just FYI.

The sample photocopied mockup of the book I saw wasn’t as good as I imagined it to be, but I guess it’ll have to do since I didn’t have any other printing options (digital printing would’ve inflated the printing cost 3.5 times, and when converted to Ringgit, isn’t very feasible to sell). Will be collecting my babies on Monday, so will be posting photos and details for purchasing this then!
