I'm Max and this is my artblog. Originally started for Sketchavember back in 2010, this place now serves as my artspace/blog of sorts.

I also reblog stuff that I find artistically inspirational here, just for fun.

Hello Everyone! I’ve just completed my packing and last-minute checks of my luggage before I leave for my flight to Toronto tomorrow morning, so here’s some photos of the books Saph and myself will be selling at TCAF!

Saph’s book, @venturer.com, is pretty thick (almost 60+ pages if I remember correctly) and in full colour, and will be going for 10 CND a book. My books on the other hand are monotone will be sold at 4 CND (Across The Causeway, The Road Not Taken) and 6 CND (Across The Causeway 2) respectively.

We’re located at Booth 214, so please give us some love if you’ll be headed to the Toronto Reference Library this weekend!

…Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a 22 hour flight to look forward to! See you at TCAF!

It’s a big day for Malaysia tomorrow and though this may come a little late, I implore those of you (Malaysians of course!) who are already registered voters to go out and vote!
No matter who you’re voting for, and no matter what your beliefs are, it’s important that you take a stand and have your say about who will run our beloved country.
Every vote counts!

Here’s the coloured cover for the second print run of my self-published journal comic compilation I released mid-2012, remastered exclusively for TCAF.
I keep a comic journal about my life flitting between Malaysia and SIngapore, and it was only last year that I decided that I had enough material to make into a book, so I took a chance and did.
If you’re wondering what the contents are like, here are some sample pages plucked from this tumblr: 1 2 3 4
It’s 40 pages thick and going at 4 CND a pop! Do drop by my booth at TCAF if you’re going, I love meeting new people!

Now that the last hurdle has been cleared (Visa received!), I guess it’s safe to post this particular entry…and I’m going to just say it here to make it official: I’M GOING TO TCAF!
The original plan was for Saph and I was to go on a trip to Toronto, Canada, that would coincide with TCAF…but somewhere along the way Saph asked me to try my luck and apply for a booth.
I honestly never thought that I’d make it through the selection process (since the number of applicants increase every year!) so you can only imagine my (belated) elation when I received my booth confirmation e-mail (note: I was in the lab when I read the e-mail so I had to suppress my urge to run around in circles while screaming until lunchtime).
So yeah, if you happen to be a Torontoian (does that term exist?) or will be at TCAF, do drop by my booth! Even if it’s just to say hello!
I’m still in the process of putting together my book, but I’ll definitely be posting up more stuff in the days leading up to TCAF! /goes back to editing pages

Another old-er piece from my travelling comic journal. Uneditted this time because of the watercolours!
If you want to find out more about the Pongal Festival, here’s an easy click through link to the article on Wikipedia.

Yes, I was still stuck in the cellphone stone age until early this year when I finally decided to take the plunge and get a ‘Smart’ Phone. Now I’m addicted to LinePlay. Send help.
Posting up something ‘old’, just to keep up with things! I’m really terrible when it comes to keeping this place up-to-date with my latest art! Timeline-wise though, this was done after I was done with my Adventure Time fancomic, so it kind of fits…somewhat?
Also, to the new followers of this blog, thank you! I don’t really draw a lot of fanart but I sure hope you’ll stick around! =)

I was chatting with Saph about comics and deadlines just now and lamenting about how we keep getting Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to comics and Comic Fiesta when she said that I should update this Tumblr more after my doujin (or should I say comic anthology) rush, to which I say SCREW IT and post another page from my journal.
This page was done before the previous watercolour journal piece I posted here, but I got around to erasing my pencil lines (which is the part I dislike the most about the drawing process) and here you go!
Seriously, I am a sloth when it comes to scanning. Like wha-
In case any of you are wondering, I’ve not cut my hair since I drew this piece and now the fringe has grown so much longer it’s almost covering my eyebrows. Time for another haircut…I guess..?
Welp, back to drawing. Catch you all again soon!

I realized I left that last post at a bit of an awkward note with the promise of more, and then as always, I forgot to follow up. But thanks, all the kind people who left me messages, especially the scientists; bros forever.  I’ll preface this with the usual disclaimer (which does needs to be said!); peoples’ situations will always be different and there is no one solution to anything in this world. Least of all the problem of sorting one’s shit out!

Something I did in watercolour recently (a first in my new journal sketchbook). The Moleskine sketchbook does take watercolours rather well if you want to achieve a semi-dry/wet effect.
In case you’re wondering, yes, it’s a little weird when you see a piece of tissue that was just taken from another person’s body just moments ago being painted like this. All part of the job I guess. (This coming from the person who subsequently took that tissue and made it into a cell line which is currently still growing).
P/S: It was a breast tumour. /MENANGIS DI TETEK BATU
P/P/S: I still don’t know how to edit watercolour scans to get the best effects on the computer. Meh.

Something I drew yesterday for a friend’s birthday gift. This is the first ‘complete’ illustration I’ve done using the Copics I purchased earlier this year…as well as my first Gravity Falls fanart. (Yes, I am a little sad that I can’t keep it for myself haha!)

Tools used: Mechanical Pencil with 0.7 Light Blue lead, 0.2 Unipin Felt Tip pen, Copic Markers, Colour Pencils (for the outline around the characters).
